It would be an understatement to say that the fashion world is undergoing a metamorphosis. Like society, the textile industry is digitizing to appear in a surprising way. A turning point observed on a large scale since the health crisis of 2020. It is therefore no surprise that Monnier Frères, a leading player in innovation in the fashionsphere, is a forerunner of digital fashion in France. Completely digitized outfits displayed on Instagram photos or digital platforms that push the limits of technology but also of creation ... But what exactly is digital fashion?
Digital Fashion: the future of the industry?
Fashion is at a turning point. Consumers and companies alike have finally come to terms with the fact that the textile industry is one of the most resource-intensive and highly-polluting sectors there is. Something needs to be done, and digital fashion is here to help.
What is digital fashion?
In the age of social media and all things digital, digital fashion could be the solution we all need. Imagine being able to change your outfit on a photo. It sounds like science fiction and yet, it's reality (well, almost). More and more agencies and brands now specialise in these fully digital clothing creations using 3D software. Fashion giants like Gucci, Chanel and Versace can create digital clothing for influencers and even for video games like Animal Crossing or The Sims. This is what's known as the gamification of fashion.
It's an exciting revolution for an industry that is traditionally very stuck in its ways. And the COVID-19 pandemic has ensured that the phenomenon has taken off at full speed. With the clothing business on the verge of collapse due to multiple and widespread lockdowns, digital fashion has provided a way for brands to keep on keeping on, and continue to innovate despite the closure of factories and stores. The GCDS brand even created its own all-digital fashion show, with prestigious guests including Dua Lipa and Chiara Ferragni presented as avatars, wearing the house's digital designs. Other more savvy brands have based their entire creation on digital fashion, successfully pushing the boundaries of couture. This is the case with republiqe.
Who are republiqe ?
AVANT/APRÈS
The republiqe brand describes itself as the first label based solely on digital fashion. The brand was created in 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic when the clothing industry was reaching the end of its rope. Reinforced by the rise of social media in the midst of a worldwide lockdown, republiqe led by James Gaubert, has managed to adapt to the new way in which fashion is consumed. Virtual shopping and fashion that is good for creativity as well as the planet. In October 2021, republiqe joined forces with Monnier Frères for the creation of several digital fashion items. The circle is complete.
The principle of this collaboration is simple. You buy the outfit you want on the Monnier Frères website. You send us a photo that meets all the criteria (optimal quality, perfect brightness, tight clothes, etc.) then our teams take care of including your outfit in the photo. You receive it and you just have to show off on social media. Ready to be ahead of your time?
